Acne is an inflammation of the skin that affects the pores and oil glands attached to them. It is NOT caused by being 'dirty' or by eating too many chips and too much chocolate. It is caused by the niggling ever-changing Hormones that circulate around your blood stream!
Acne is a peculiar response in the skin to normal levels of the male hormone, testosterone. Both men and women have testosterone circulating in their blood, but in the acne sufferer, this hormone has an extreme effect on the skin, kind of like an allergic reaction.
Acne can get better without treatment, but there is no way of predicting how long this can take. However, there are many treatments available to treat Acne, over the counter in your local chemist or supermarket or from your Doctor. Acne can leave scars that are permanent so it is best to try and get it sorted out quickly.
