Confidentiality policy (IYS)
Suffolk County Council Youth Support Service provides information, advice, guidance and support to help young people aged 11-19 make good choices and reach their true potential.

To do this we keep information about young people that is relevant to those choices. This information is kept mainly on computer and is kept securely. It can only be seen by staff working for the Youth Support Service.

The Data Protection Act (1998) says the information we keep must be ‘relevant to the purpose’. This means the information we keep about young people is relevant to helping them make successful choices.

Information can be divided into two types:

  • Basic information (name, address, date of birth, gender, qualifications, current situation e.g. school, college, employment).

This information will be shared with other local authorities if a young person moves to their area to live, study or train, and with other agencies if we are working with them to support a young person.

If a young person does not want this basic information shared they should write to Suffolk County Council’s Youth Support Service.

  • Additional information will not be shared with anyone outside of the Suffolk County Council Youth Support Service without the young person’s permission.

However we will share the information if by not doing so we would be breaking the law or putting people at risk.
