The Buzz:

I had reasonably high hopes for the sequel to Alvin and the Chipmunks. OK, its audience is mainly for the kiddies, but it was still good fun. Then there was the Squeakquel. Hmm. The alarm bells started ringing at such a ridiculous title.

The melodic chipmunk trio, Alvin, Simon and Theodore are forced into high school, after their guardian Dave (Jason Lee – Syndrome from The Incredibles) has an accident, leaving them to be looked after by some relative called Toby, who is a techno-geek and a slob.

At school they must face school bullies, crazy fans and perhaps even the prospect of true love, with another trio of FEMALE chipmunks, Brittany, Jeanette (Anna Faris) and Eleanor. But could the evil Ian turn things sour, as he tries to force-feed the girls with fame and fortune?

Despite my excitement, the warning in my head proved true. The plot to this film was, basically identical to the original, but with females. Alvin infuriated me with his prima-donna ways, and of course there are the squeaky voices…urgh! Also, the jokes are not funny, unless you’re about six.

What a disappointment
