The Buzz:

Ooh look, another 3D movie!

The director of this film is the same man who directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, so naturally I was interested; having noted that the animation made everything look like it was made from cloth!

Let me tell you that I wasn’t disappointed!

Dakota Fanning is the voice of spunky Coraline (War of the Worlds and upcoming Twilight sequel, New Moon!), while Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives) plays her stressed out mum. Having just moved house, Coraline feels neglected by her parents, not to mention freaked out by her new neighbours. Comedy duo Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French provide the voices for Miss Spink and Miss Forcible, two old ladies who used to be famous circus performers, Bobinsky, a weird man who makes mice dance, and an annoying 11 year old, called Wybie (Robert Bailey Jr.).

Coraline stumbles across a tiny door boarded up with bricks, but at night, it’s a doorway to the Other World where her parents love her, and Wybie can’t talk. Of course, like all good things, it has to turn sour, doesn’t it?

I wasn’t surprised that this film was quite dark for its certificate, but that didn’t mean it didn’t spook me in certain places. You’d have to have nerves of steel not to!

The Rating:

I give this film 3 STARS
