The Buzz:

In the Valley of Peace, a panda called Po (voiced perfectly by Jack Black) dreams of becoming one of the “Famous Five” which is already made up of the Mantis (Seth Rogen), the Viper (Lucy Liu), the Crane (David Cross), the Tigress (Angelina Jolie), and the Monkey (kung fu master Jackie Chan).

However, when the ancient and slightly senile tortoise, Oogway (Randall Duk Kim) goes to announce the great Dragon Warrior, Po cannot quite get inside and find out, which results in mad Wile Coyote-style attempts to get over the wall to the Jade Temple.

After succeeding in his task, he is shocked – as well as the Famous Five and their Master, Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) – when Oogway decides that Po is the new Dragon Warrior!

There is much outrage, and they are soon vowing that Po will quit. But their attitudes are forced to change, when the evil snow leopard, Tai Lung (Ian McShane) breaks out of prison…to get revenge on Shifu after putting him in there in the first place, and not letting him become the Dragon Warrior.

Jack Black steals the show with his quick wit, and his character could almost be him exactly, except he is a panda!

The effects of this film are wonderful, and the computer graphics just add to the fast-paced action scenes.

As this is a PG film, the quick fighting scenes can be quite violent at times, so if you don’t enjoy karate films, this isn’t for you.

The Rating:

I give this film 4 STARS
