Mental Health Awareness Week is here!
It is being hosted by the Mental Health Foundation (MHF). This year's theme is 'Surviving or Thriving?' and hopes to raise awareness about mental health and get people talking.
Surviving or Thriving?
Sometimes we can feel like we are just surviving,when we experience traumatic events or in our everyday lives if we feel stressed, anxious and pressured.
When we are thriving we are more able to face the challenges of life and not be beaten or destroyed by them.
From Surviving to Thriving?
The difficult experiences often make us stronger and during these times we develop ways of negotiating, coping and dealing with difficulties which help us bounce-back.
Another word for this is resilience. Some things that strengthen our resilience include noticing if we are feeling stressed or worried so we can de-stress, putting things into perspective, problem solving, speaking to someone we trust for help or advice, seeing the funny or positive side of things, helping others, doing something which makes us feel good…These things help us deal with the challenges of life and go from surviving to thriving.
