Children’s Mental Health Week 5-11 February

Children’s Mental Health Week 2024 takes place from 5-11 February.

Every year Children’s Mental Health Week sees hundreds of schools taking part to encourage children and young people to reach out so they do not face mental health problems alone.

This years Children’s Mental Health Week theme is ‘My Voice Matters’, which is about getting your school to empower children and young people by providing them with the tools they need to express themselves.

How can I take part in Children’s Mental Health Week?

Go to the childrensmentalhealthweek website, download their resources, and get your school involved in celebrating the importance of children’s mental health.

10 ways to look after your mental health

  1. Don’t keep it all to yourself
  2. Talk to someone you trust – a trusted adult like a teacher, or
  3. Write your thoughts and feelings down or draw how you feel
  4. Keep in contact with people – don’t spend too much time on your own
  5. Don’t dismiss your feelings – they are valid
  6. Focus on the good parts of your life and doing what you love
  7. If you feel like hurting yourself tell someone and try to distract yourself (by putting an ice cube on your wrist or popping some bubble wrap, use a fidget toy)
  8. Do something you enjoy to relax and have a break – watch a film, put on a new playlist, watch your favourite YouTuber, play a game or sport.
  9. Be your own best friend because at the end of the day, you are stuck with you – so look after yourself.
  10. Remember you are not alone, even if it sometimes feels like you are
