The election

What is the UK Youth Parliament?

The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) is run by young people for young people and enables 11-18 year olds to use their energy and passion to change the world for the better and bring around social change.

What does it mean to be a Member of Youth Parliament (MYP)?

Being an MYP is a very exciting opportunity. Do you want to:

  • collect and represent the views of other young people in Suffolk on issues that matter to them
  • present these issues on a local and national level
  • plan and run a campaign on the top Make Your Mark topic. This year it's 'Protect the Environment'.

MYPs are politically neutral, they usually stand for a two year term.

Election fortnight!

It’s a very exciting time because Election fortnight is here and it is your time to take part and vote for the next Member of Youth Parliament and the deputy for your area! There are three areas: Waveney and Suffolk North, Ipswich and Suffolk South and Suffolk West.

This is what you need to do next:

  • Show the 10 minute video at the school council meeting (but it could be the whole school or a youth group!)
  • Vote (please see the ballot paper attached)
  • Count the results
  • Email results to by the 16th March 2020
